Entering its fourth generation, the Ford Focus brings updated styling and a host of new technology to the popular small family hatchback. Expected to arrive in September, it will be the marque’s most advanced European model, featuring a lighter yet more rigid structure for improved safety and a range of in-car aids for stress-free driving.
Boasting its sharpest design yet, the Ford Focus’ crisp lines and concave shapes give it an athletic profile, while the squat stance and long bonnet pay homage to traditional sports car design. The model is also wider than previous iterations, with the cabin sitting further back to allow for more interior space. Meanwhile, a revised grille and tapering headlights lend a more aggressive, powerful element to the overall look.
Ford has created more room for the whole family in the Focus, extending the wheelbase by 53mm to create improved legroom in the rear. There’s also a flat floor, which increases comfort for middle seat passengers, and boot space is more generous too. The cabin focuses around the large touchscreen, which offers easy control of the car’s functions, and the SYNC 3 system comes as standard on every model.
From launch, a familiar line-up of punchy engines is available, which include the three-cylinder mHEV petrol options, which have been adapted to produce even better efficiency. Two Ecoblue diesels are on offer too, offering the Focus’ cleanest drive yet. The 1.5-litre variant delivers 120bhp or 150bhp and emits a little as 114g/km of CO2.
Built on the new C2 platform, the Focus features Continuously Controlled Dampening, which monitors suspension, steering, body and braking to provide the comfiest ride possible. A raft of safety technology is also included, from Pre-Collision Assist to inflatable seatbelts. Drivers can specify the Co-Pilot360 system, which combines industry-leading technologies to help manage acceleration, braking and steering.
The Focus is built to improve your driving experience in every way. This next generation car is packed with advanced features like Ford Co-Pilot360, an impressive set of Driver Assist Technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go and Lane Centring, and Active Park Assist 2. Together, these smart technologies can help manage acceleration, braking, and even steering. It’s technology that’s so effortless and useful, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it.
Safety is our priority, a series of smart technologies are designed to protect you, your family, and other road users. For example, Active Braking and Pre-collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection can warn you of potential collisions and even apply the brakes automatically if you don’t react in time.
