The Ford Galaxy is an accomplished people carrier that provides plenty of room for up to seven occupants. This practical MPV is also simple to drive, and comes in Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X trim levels.
The stylish Galaxy features several attractive elements, including a chrome-trimmed upper front grille and 17-inch 20-spoke alloy wheels that are secured with locking nuts.
Body-coloured fixtures include door handles and (power-operated, folding and heated) door mirrors, the latter with integrated indicator and puddle lights.
Further illumination includes courtesy-delay headlights, daytime running lights, front fog lamps and LED rear lights. The vehicle is topped with roof rails, and a Quickclear heated windscreen is fitted as standard, complete with heated washer jets.
The Galaxy’s spacious and versatile cabin features four-way-adjustable and lumbar-supporting front-row seating. The driver further benefits from a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, the former offering tilt-and-telescopic adjustability. With Ford’s Power Start button, the engine can be ignited without the need to insert a key. Other standard features include power-assisted steering, electric front and rear windows (key-fob-operable and each with one-touch facility), Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (including rear-compartment air-conditioning) and second-and-third-row reading lights.
Stowage provision includes front-row under-seat compartments and an overhead cavity. Seat-back tray-tables and cup-holders are also featured. A hidden section is located in the floor of a 300-litre boot. With five seats up, cargo capacity is 1,301 litres. With just two seats up, load space rises to as much as 2,339 litres, giving the Galaxy a significant advantage over most in its class.
A 1.5-litre 158bhp petrol engine delivers up to 43.5mpg and a CO2 emission figure of 149g/km.
Alternatively, a 2.0-litre 118bhp (or 148bhp) diesel unit returns as much as 56.5mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 129g/km, making it the Galaxy’s most fuel-efficient choice engine.
Both options are available for entry-level Zetec trims, and Auto Start-Stop is included as standard with all models.
An eight-speaker sound system includes DAB digital radio, a CD player and an AM/FM radio. USB, SD and AUX connectivity is featured too, as is an LCD touchscreen, Ford SYNC 2 and MyKey.
The Galaxy comes with Euro NCAP’s five-star rating, and driving aids include front and rear parking-distance sensors, Anti-Lock Braking System, Curve Control and Stability Control. Among the vehicle’s passive safety features are multiple airbags and child-proof rear doors and windows.A Thatcham alarm and remote central locking help maintain the Galaxy’s security.
