The fun-to-drive Ford Focus delivers deft handling and comes with a fine selection of engine options. This attractive family car includes a wide range of standard safety features too and is available in five trim levels, ranging from Style to Titanium X.
The easy-on-the eye Focus features a number of colour-coded elements, including door handles and power-operated and heated door mirrors. Five-door models also add a colour-keyed rear spoiler, while estate variants sport chrome-finished roof rails.
Zetec grades include 16-inch alloy wheels, a chrome front grille, front fog lamps and a Quickclear heated windscreen.
A five-person cabin offers adjustable front-row seating, and the driver further benefits from a rake-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel. Other standard features include power-assisted steering, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and air conditioning. Standard Focus models possess a 316-litre boot (rising to 1,262 litres with rear seats folded), while estate models offer a cargo capacity of between 476 litres and 1,516 litres.
Zetec grades add, among other things, power-operated front windows.
Entry-level Style trims come with a number of engine options. These include a 1.0-litre 99bhp petrol unit, which is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and delivers up to 61.4mpg and a 105g/km CO2 emissions figure.
Also available for this grade is a 1.5-litre 95bhp (or 118bhp) diesel engine. Paired with six-speed manual transmission, this returns as much as 74.3mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 98g/km.
Both of these options come with Auto Start-Stop, and all trims include Ford’s Easy Fuel capless system.
A six-speaker sound system includes DAB digital radio, an AM/FM radio and a CD player. Also featured as standard are USB and AUX connectivity, a 4.2-inch colour display and Ford SYNC (with Voice Control and Emergency Assistance).
The Focus has been awarded a five-star rating by Euro NCAP, and passive safety features include multiple airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mountings, seatbelt pre-tensioners and load-limiters and seatbelt reminders. Among the vehicle’s driver aids are Anti-lock Braking System (with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), Electronic Stability Control (with Traction Control and Emergency Brake Assist), Hill-start Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
The vehicle is secured with remote central locking and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm.
